Chinese Long Course Nationals: Sun Yang Posts Strong 1500 Free Time

RIZHAO, China, September 25. SUN Yang, who set the world record in the men's 1500 free at Worlds this summer, came through with a swift metric mile tonight at the Chinese Long Course Nationals.

Sun topped the event in 14:45.78 for his fourth title of the meet, giving him three of the top five swims this year. He clocked a 14:34.14 for the record at Worlds, while also posting the second-best time this year with a 14:42.52 in April in China. He already had won the 200 free, 400 free and 800 free relay titles earlier in the meet. He swam this evening mostly alone as Li Yunqi took second in 15:09.40, while Wang Hunan touched third in 15:21.06.

"I have much room for growth next year, and my coach has given me a goal of Olympic success," Sun said.

Shao Yiwen topped the women's 200 free in 1:58.29 for the win, while Pang Jiaying took silver in 1:58.92. Thus far, Shao has won three titles with victories in the 200, 400 and 800 free this week.

In other action, Chengfei Yi won the men's 200 back in 1:58.63, while Lin Jingshi picked up the women's 200 breast crown in 2:26.62. Chen Yin captured the men's 200 fly in 1:56.84, while Guangdong earned the men's 400 medley relay victory in an unreported time.
