China Reports Seven Positive Doping Tests for 2008

SHAOXING, CHINA, April 6. ACCORDING to a report by Xinhua, the Chinese Swimming Federation announced that seven Chinese swimmers tested positive out of 1,566 tests last year.

The tests discovered Clenbuterol in the systems of six men and one woman, the same drug that showed up in a Jessica Hardy test from the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials.

China, although still under the gun from past doping scandals, has taken a tough stance with positive tests as each of the seven were banned for life.

"We are happy to achieve 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in the Beijing Olympics, but we are more sad about the 7 positive tests in the year of 2008. It is a shame for Chinese swimming as most of the swimmers and coaches work very hard to catch up with the world pace." Chinese Swimming Administrative Center Director Li Hua told Xinhua. "We need to redouble efforts in anti-doping work from now on."
