China, Great Britain Win Golds at FINA World Junior Diving Championships

TUCSON, Arizona, September 4. USA's Bryce Klein (Southlake, Texas) won the silver medal in the boys group B 1-meter contest Friday at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships.

Klein's medal was the fifth won by Team USA, pushing the medal count to one gold, two silver and two bronze with three days of competition still to come.

"We're doing a fantastic job as a team. We're really feeding off each other's performances," Klein said.

Klein scored 416.85 points to win the silver medal behind Great Britain's Jack Laugher, who picked up the gold with 440.00 points. China's Li Sheng finished third at 391.95.

Klein headed into the finals after finishing sixth in the preliminaries.

"I felt like I missed some things during the preliminaries, but I thought I had a solid final. I got rid of those jitters and was just diving like it was practice," said Klein, who dives again Sunday in the 3-meter contest.

Dashiell Enos (Indianapolis, Ind.) also advanced to the 1-meter finals and finished 10th with 391.95 points.

USA's Callan Buck (Keller, Texas) and Kaylea Arnett (Spring, Texas) advanced to the girls group A 3-meter final. Buck scored 418.10 points to place sixth in her first world meet, and Arnett placed 10th with 397.50 points. China's Liu Tian won the gold at 452.70, and Australia's Anna Gelai edged out China's Wie Ying for silver, 433.40-431.15.

Competition continues Saturday with boys group A 1-meter, boys group B platform and girls synchronized 3-meter.
