FINA has confirmed that Felipe Tapia of Team Chile has made the cut to represent Chile in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Tapia will join Kristel Köbrich at the Olympic Games in August. Köbrich has represented Chile in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics, and holds numerous South American records in the freestyle events, both short and long course.

Tapia will be competing in the men’s 1500 meter freestyle, after having achieved the B Olympic Qualifying standard at the Kazan Wold Championships. His 15:45.63 time fell within the official qualifying list of swimmers for Rio 2016. Köbrich will be competing in the women’s 800 meter freestyle.

According to Olympic Committee of Chile, Tapia is now the 40th athlete to represent Chile in the Olympic Games.
