Charlie Scheinfeld and Daniel Krueger have grown the Texas Longhorn men’s Class of 2022 to three with their recent verbal commitments. Both are high school juniors. They join Drew Kibler who also verbally committed to the Longhorns earlier this year.

Scheinfeld attends New Trier High School and swims for New Trier Swim Club. He is the two time IHSA State Champion in the 100 breaststroke as well as a Summer Juniors finalist in both the 100 and the 200 breaststroke.

With nearly two years to go until his first Championship season at Texas Scheinfeld will look to grow into the breaststroke relay role left open by the graduation of Will Licon. Licon swept the breaststroke events (50.68/1:47.91) at this year’s NCAA Championships. The only other Longhorn in either event was sophomore Sam Stewart (1:58.68) in the 200.

Scheinfeld’s top times are:

  • 50 Breast 25.14
  • 100 Breast 54.63
  • 200 Breast 1:59.01

While he’s not yet ready to make an impact on the national stage, Scheinfeld would have been fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200 at Big 12s this year.

Krueger is a member of the USA Swimming National Junior Team. He trains with the McFarland Spartan Sharks in Wisconsin and is homeschooled.

Krueger said in his Instagram announcement, “I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Texas! I can’t wait to join the Longhorns in 2018!”

His top times are:

  • 50 Free 19.84
  • 100 Free 43.38
  • 200 Free 1:35.58
  • 50 Back 23.78
  • 100 Back 49.02

At this year’s Big 12 Championships Krueger would have touched sixth in the 50 free, fourth in the 100 free, and fifth in the 200 free.

Texas won two of three freestyle relays at NCAAs. The slowest 200 freestyle relay split was 18.96. On the 400 freestyle relay those times ranged from 41.01 to 42.06. On the 800 freestyle relay the Longhorns recorded times between 1:30.42 and 1:33.40. With over a year to go before he even arrives in Austin, Krueger could develop into a relay contributor.
