Chad le Clos Selected as South African Sportsman of the Year

The South African Sports Awards highlighted a pair of swimmers last week.

Swimmer Chad le Clos was named the Sportsman earning the award over finalists WBA and Ring Magazine light-flyweight champion Hekkie Budler and long jumper Luvo Manyonga.

This year, le Los won three gold medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He won the 50-, 100- and 200-meter butterfly events. He also won the silver medal in the 100 freestyle and was on the South Africa 400 medley relay that earned the bronze.

It is the second time le Clos has won the award, the other coming in 2014. Four swimmers have won the award

He was a finals for the People’s Choice award as well.

Commonwealth Games double breaststroke champion Tatjan Schoenmaker was named the newcomer of the year holding off two finalists — fellow swimmer Minke Janse van Rensburg and sprinter Luxolo Adam.
