Cesar Cielo, Michelle Coombs Named Swimming World College Swimmers of the Week

PHOENIX, Arizona, February 14. AUBURN junior Cesar Cielo and SUNY-New Paltz senior Michelle Coombs have been named Swimming World's College Swimmers of the Week.

The award is an extension of the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week (NCSW) honors given out by CollegeSwimming.com across three divisions of NCAA competition.

Cielo and SMU's Anja Carman won the NCSW Division I honors, while South Dakota's Sarah Holman and St. Cloud State's Matt Verwey picked up Division II accolades. Coombs and SUNY-Oswego's Greg Doyle snagged D III kudos.

Cielo helped Auburn knock off Florida State, 190-106, during Senior Day. Cielo claimed victories in the 100 freestyle with an A-cut 43.01, while also leading off the 200 free relay with a 19.46 50 free.

Coombs led SUNY-New Paltz to second-place at the SUNYAC Championships. She garnered the Outstanding Female Swimmer of the Meet honors with triumphs in the 50 (23.72), 100 (51.83) and 200 (1:53.14) freestyle as well as victories in the 200 medley relay (1:46.94) and the 400 medley relay (3:58.89). Additionally, she swam on the second-place 200 free relay (1:36.72) and 400 free relay (3:33.51).
