Carol Capitani Replaces Jack Bauerle as Duel in the Pool Women’s Head Coach

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, November 21. USA Swimming today announced that Carol Capitani (Austin, Texas) will replace Jack Bauerle as the United States women’s head coach at the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, which runs from Dec. 20-21 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Capitani takes over for Bauerle who is set to undergo knee-replacement surgery and unable to attend the two-day event. Capitani’s appointment marks the first time that a woman will serve as a head coach at a Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool event.

“I know Jack (Bauerle) was excited about this opportunity and it’s unfortunate he can’t make the trip,” USA Swimming National Team Director Frank Busch said. “Carol (Capitani) is an incredible coach with a lot of experience, and she will make a great impact with our team.”

Capitani will lead the United States’ 17-woman roster highlighted by Olympic gold medalists Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md.) and Jessica Hardy (Long Beach, Calif.). This past summer Capitani was a member of the women’s coaching staff at the 2013 World University Games where the U.S. collected 23 medals. She’s is currently in her second season as the women’s head coach at the University of Texas.

The short-course meet will be at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, site of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Day one of the meet is slated for 2 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 20, followed by the conclusion of the meet at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 21. Footage from the meet will be televised by NBC as part of a two-hour show on Sunday, Dec. 22. The show will air from 4-6 p.m. ET.
