Carmel (Ind.) Captures MaxPreps Cup as Top High School Sports Program in Nation

Carmel High School (Indiana) has been named the  2025-26 MaxPreps Cup winner, which recognizes the top scholastic sports program in the country. During the past school year, the Greyhounds won eight state championships, including the latest titles by its girls and boys swimming programs. Other state titles were won in boys lacrosse, boys soccer, boys tennis, girls cross country, girls tennis and girls track and field.

Over the course of the year, Carmel scored 2,906 points in the MaxPreps standings, which are tabulated using an algorithm that recognizes state championships, runnerups finishes and national rankings. St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) placed second in the standings with 2,742 points.

Carmel’s state championship in girls swimming was its 40th in a row, a national record for the most state consecutive state titles in a single sport. Meanwhile, Carmel picked up its 12th straight state crown. Both teams are coached by Chris Plumb.

“The past school year was tremendous in many ways for our Greyhounds,” Carmel athletic director Jim Inskeep told MaxPreps. “The recognition from MaxPreps is truly a testament to the partnership between our community and the school district. The City of Carmel has a tradition of setting out to reach the highest of goals in everything that we do as a community. The student-athletes and coaches embrace this same philosophy. There are so many terrific athletic programs across the country and to be in the MaxPreps Cup conversation with them for the top spot is an honor.”
