AUSTIN – During time trials today at the American Short Course Championships, the Canyons Aquatic Club downed the U.S. 15-16 National Age Group record on the boys 200-yard free relay.

After initially losing a 1:23.56 to disqualification during preliminaries, the foursome of Kevin Dai (20.58), Johnny Ellery (20.85), Tanner Olson (20.63) and Brandon Yong (20.82) time trialed its way to a 1:22.88.

That swim downed the previous record set last year by Scottsdale Aquatic Club.

The SAC quartet of Ryan Hoffer (20.31), Jack Black (19.81), Aaron Apel (22.02) and Kaleb Gould (21.06) turned in a time of 1:23.44 at a Scottsdale Aquatic Last Chance Meet in July.

The big difference is that Canyons’ team was more balanced than the Hoffer/Black powered Scottsdale Aquatics crew.

Here’s video of the Scottsdale swim.  We’re looking at whether Canyons has video.
