Canadian Women Upset by Greece, 5-2

IMPERIA, Italy, February 23. THE Canadian Women's Water Polo Team took a hard hit today with a 5-2 loss against Greece at the Fina Olympic Qualifier Tournament in Italy. Two-time Olympic participant Canada missed the qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Greece, the Silver medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, took the early lead in the quarterfinal game scoring 3 goals in the first half shutting out the Canadians. The Canadian team scored their first in the third but was not enough to grab the lead as Greece managed to put an additional two pass Canada's goaltender Rachel Riddell in the fourth. Canada managed to gain an additional goal in the fourth quarter but was not enough to take the win.

Greece is joining the three other semi-finalists Russia, Hungary and Italy, playing Russia in tomorrow's semi-final games again. The Netherlands, USA, Australia and the hosting nation China have already earned the four other Olympic berths as representatives of their respective continents.
