Canadian Summer Nationals: Vancouver Dolphins Wrap Up Team Title As Meet Concludes

EDMONTON, Canada, July 22. THE Vancouver Dolphins racked up the most points of any team, walking away with the team title on the final night of competition at the Canadian Summer Nationals in Edmonton.

Hyack's Sherry Liu got the evening started by posting the fastest swim in the women's 800m free. Her time of 8:49.74 topped Hamilton's Bridget Coley by three seconds (8:52.91) and Toronto's Heather Maitland by more than five (8:54.43).

Erika Seltenreich-Hodson of the Greater Ontario Kingfish stroked her way to a two second victory in the women's 200m IM, hitting the wall in 2:14.37. Neptune's Sydney Pickrem came in second at 2:16.86, followed by Tianna Rissling of the Alberta Marlins (2:17.59). Langley Olympians' Jake Tapp, winner of the men's 100m fly last night, picked up another victory in the IM in 2:03.01. Bogdon Knezevic of Serbia finished close behind in 2:03.67, while Etobicoke's Hassaan Abdel-Khalik rounded out the podium with a 2:04.79.

Manta's Chantal VanLandeghem swept the sprint free events, posting a 25.16 in the 50m free to add to her win in the 100m free earlier in the meet. Sandrine Mainville of PPO secured second in 25.56, while RHAC Predators' Victoria Chan (25.93) posted the only other time under 26 seconds for third. Luke Peddie of Olympian Swim Club brought home the men's sprint title in 22.77, the only sub-23 performance. Kelly Aspinall of the Vancouver Dolphins swam a 23.14 for second, followed by Toronto's Alex Loginov in third (23.19).

In the women's 200m breast, Pointe-Claire's Ashley McGregor out-touched Liquid Lightning's Kierra Smith, 2:27.24 to 2:27.55, for her second win of the meet. Sarah-Le Hevey of Club Aquatique Montreal finished third in 2:31.33. Richard Funk of Edmonton Keyano grabbed the breaststroke triple after recording a 2:13.90 to win the men's 200m breast tonight. Andrew Poznikoff of Simon Fraser touched second in 2:15.82. Warren Barnes of Toronto came in third at 2:16.02.

In the final individual event of the meet, Keyano's Kier Maitland added the men's 1500m free title to his win in the 800m on night one, touching in 15:24.20 for the win. Island Swimming's Eric Hedlin placed second in 15:31.59, ahead of his teammate, Will Brothers (15:34.42).

The men's and women's 400m medley relays closed out the meet. University of Calgary's Jason Block, Chris Tobin, James Kendrick and David Woodman posted the quickest time in the men's race at 3:49.48, only half a second ahead of second place Vancouver (3:50.00). Results from the women's event were not available.

Vancouver won the meet with 912 points. Oakville Aquatic Club placed second with 603, followed by Edmonton Keyano at 533.5.
