Canada Cup: Sinead Russell, Tobias Oriwol Double Up Again to Close Meet

TORONTO, Ontario, November 27. SINEAD Russell completed a strong meet with another double, giving her six individual golds at the Canada Cup in Toronto this weekend. Meanwhile, Tobias Oriwol closed a five-title meet himself with a double of his own. The meet is taking place with short course meters in prelims and long course meters in finals.

Sinead Russell kept steamrolling to gold, this time with a 1:59.70 in the women's 200 free to break the LCM meet record. That came after rocketing to a SCM meet record of 1:56.79 during prelims, which moved her to 24th in the world rankings. Lindsay Delmar touched second in 2:00.21, while Lauren Earp finished third in 2:00.79. She doubled up yet again this weekend with a 29.02 to set the LCM meet record in the women's 50 back after clocking an SCM meet record of 28.07 in prelims. Marie Couillard finished second in 29.59, while Genevieve Cantin earned third in 30.01.

Tobias Oriwol continued a strong meet with another victory, this time with a 16:06.70 to win the men's 1500 free. Chris Reith (16:09.36) and Alexander Hamilton (16:12.47) finished second and third. Oriwol doubled up with a 1:51.36 to win the men's 200 free. Ray Betuzzi downed the SCM meet record during prelims with a 1:48.69, but finished second tonight in 1:51.90. Hassann Abdel-Khalik placed third in 1:52.55

Katerine Savard captured the women's 100 fly in 57.80 to set the LCM meet record after clocking a 58.48 during SCM prelims to rank 25th in the world. The 57.80 from Savard lowered her season best of 57.97 from March, and moved her to 11th in the world rankings. Kendra Chernoff took second tonight in 1:00.22, while Erin Miller completed the top three in 1:00.99.

Brittany MacLean dominated the women's 800 free with an 8:39.39 to set the LCM meet record, while Tabitha Baumann placed second in 8:45.40. Lucy Charles finished third in 8:46.10. Pascal Wollach finished first in the men's 50 back with a 26.58 after clocking an SCM meet record of 25.01 in prelims. Charles Bodison took second in 26.69, while Jon Carlisle picked up third in 26.86.

Zack Chetrat won the men's 100 fly in 54.46 after posting a 53.88 SCM time in prelims. Mike Smerek touched second in 55.06, while Edward Liu wound up third in 55.34. Molly Renshaw claimed the women's 200 breast in an LCM meet record 2:28.36 after posting a 2:27.07 SCM in prelims. Kierra Smith touched second in 2:28.49, while Mariya Chekanovych finished third in 2:31.01. Mike Brown closed out the individual swimming for the meet with a 2:13.83 to set the LCM meet record in the men's 200 breast. Earlier, he clocked a 2:09.12 in SCM prelims. Andrew Poznikoff took second in 2:16.10, while Warren Barnes earned third in 2:16.50.
