Australian sprint sensation Cameron McEvoy has been selected as the second official Ambassador for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in his home town of Gold Coast, Australia.

As an ambassador for the GC Commonwealth Games McEvoy will assist in promoting the multi-sport event, which hosts a variety of nations across 23 separate sports.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk commented on the appointment, stating, “As one of Australia’s leading swimmers and a proud Queenslander, Cam is the perfect person to take GC2018, Queensland and Australia to the rest of the world. It is exciting to have Cam join hurdles champion Sally Pearson as an official GC2018 Ambassador to encourage athletes and spectators to embrace and experience the Games.”

McEvoy, who is known not only for his swimming accomplishments, but also for balancing his swimming life with a Bachelor of Science degree at Griffith University, commented, “I’m excited to join the Gold Coast 2018 family and play my part in the promotion of this international event. To have the Commonwealth Games in my own backyrad, the place I call home, will be a special time; it’s a great opportunity to share the experience with my family and friends.”

In addition to being named ambassador, McEvoy was also presented with a commemorative surfboard, which is “an iconic keepsake of the Gold Coast lifestyle.”

The 2018 Commonwealth Games will dive into action on April 4th, 2018 and will conclude on April 15th. Tickets are expected to be available for purchase sometime during second half of 2017.
