The entry lists for the 2017 California High School (CIF) State Championships have been released, after the conclusion of this weekend’s sectional meets. Corrections to the entry lists will be accepted until noon today, meaning a few changes could still show up.

This is just the third year California has held a total state championship meet.

The Santa Margarita girls and the Loyola boys each managed to nab two top relay seeds, both in the freestyle relays. The Santa Margarita girls come in to the meet with an impressive lead in both events (nearly two seconds in the 200 free relay and seven in the longer distance). The Loyola boys enter the 200 free relay a second and a half ahead of the next best team and double that time to three seconds for the 400 freestyle relay.

It appears as though Santa Margarita will be without its star power this weekend. After tying for the win in the 200 free (in what would be this weekend’s top seeded time) and picking up another gold each, neither Ella Ristic nor Samantha Shelton appear on the entry list. Both swimmers were also key to the team’s relays as well.

The meet is also without Eva Merrell who posted two Southern Section D2 records this weekend and was a pivotal part of two more relay records for Crean Lutheran. Her teammate Elise Garcia will be swimming, entered with a top seeded 50 freestyle and third in the 100 free. Cathy Teng, the Archbishop Mitty junior who is the top seed in that 100 free also leads the way in the 200 free.

Palo Alto’s Grace Zhao has two top seeds- the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Loyola senior Sean Lee is entered with the top time in the 200 IM and second to Oak Ridge’s Bryce Mefford in the 100 butterfly. Mefford is second in the 200 freestyle as Northgate’s Alexei Sancov leads the way in that event, the only event he is entered in. He was just six tenths from Drew Kibbler‘s National High School record last weekend.

Sierra Canyon’s Nate Biondi leads the way in the 50 free and is a close second in the 100 freestyle entries.
