Cal Women Swim Past UCLA in Pac-12 Showdown

Isabelle Stadden and Leah Polonsky won two individual events apiece and The No. 5 California women’s swimming & diving team took the top two spots in four different events as the Golden Bears got by UCLA 155-144 at Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday.

Stadden won both backstroke events and Polonsky captured the 200-yard butterfly and 200 individual medley. Cal had seven different swimmers win races.

The Bears’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Stephanie Akakabota, Eloise Riley, Stadden and Ella Mazurek notched a victory with a time of 1:30.52.

Along with Stadden and Polonsky, Ava Chavez (200 free), Jade Neser (100 breaststroke), Stephanie Akakabota (50 free), Eloise Riley (100 free) and Mia Kragh (100 butterfly) also registered wins.

Cal went 1-2 in the 200 free (Chavez, Kathryn Hazle), 100 back (Stadden, Mia Motekaitis), 100 breast (Neser, Hannah Brunzell) and 200 fly (Polonsky, Lizzy Cook).

UCLA won the 400 medley relay with Rosie Murphy, Eva Carlson, Joanie Cash and Sarah Bennetts (3:40.27).

UCLA’s Ashley Kolessar won the 1000 free (10:05.39). Ana Jih-Schiff won the 200 breast (2:14.60). Paige MacEachern won the 500 free (4:54.44).

Eden Cheng won 1-meter diving with 277.00 points. Zoe Jespersgaard won 3-meter with 294.85 points.
