Cal Water Polo Adds Hudnut to Staff

BERKELEY, California, December 8. THE California women's water polo team has added U.S. national team player and former NCAA champion Peter Hudnut to its staff as a volunteer assistant coach, Golden Bears head coach Rich Corso announced today. A member of two national championship teams at Stanford (2001 and 2002), Hudnut was a part-time coach at Harvard-Westlake School, his Southern California-based alma mater, in 2003-06.

Hudnut, who was a three-time All-American and made three appearances on the NCAA all-tournament team (1999, 2001 and 2002), is currently training with the U.S. team for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He played professionally for S.S. Lazio Nuoto in Rome as part of the A-1 Italian League in 2004-06 and was an alternate for the United States' 2004 Olympic team.

"Peter is an excellent young coach," Corso said. "The discipline and work ethic he has shown during his playing career are great role-model qualities.

"His talent and creativity are direct reflections of his play at the international and professional levels. His great positional sense and team-player qualities will help our ball club significantly."

Hudnut was also a three-time All-MPSF selection at Stanford (2000, 2001 and 2002) and a three-time high school All-American at Harvard-Westlake (1996, 1997 and 1998).
