Caitlin Andrew Tops Day Three of Swimming World Magazine Cactus Classic

TEMPE/SCOTTSDALE, Arizona, May 27. AFTER watching fellow Sun Devil Nick Brunelli shine on day two of the Swimming World Magazine Cactus Classic on Saturday, Caitlin Andrew returned fire with a daily double during the third day of long course meter competition at the meet.

At the end of the night under the lights at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center, Andrew walked away with the 100 fly (1:02.49) and 100 back (1:07.17) titles at the meet sponsored by the Scottsdale Aquatic Club and Sun Devil Aquatics.

Women's 100 fly
Caitlin Andrew and Whitney Lopus, both of Sun Devil Aquatics, snared the first and second-place finishes in the event. Andrew touched in 1:02.49, while Lopus clocked a 1:03.59. Chelsey Bruington of the NGSV Gators took home third in 1:06.23

Men's 100 fly
After letting Dennis Baker track him down in the 200 fly, Sun Devil Aquatics' Sean Boyle held off all-comers in the 100 fly with a time of 57.37. Meanwhile, Alex Hier of the Westside Silver Fins took second in 57.85, while John Wojciechowski of Brophy East Swim Team wound up third in 58.33. Baker, meanwhile, snared eighth in 59.66.

Men's 100 Butterfly

Women's 200 freestyle
Ashley Evans of the Brophy East Swim Team captured another title, this time with a 2:06.40 in the 200 free. She held off a hard charging Whitney Lopus of Sun Devil Aquatics, who placed second in 2:06.88. Ellis Schieman of the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins placed third in 2:07.56.

Men's 200 freestyle
Masafumi Tojo, a Japanese national who is training with the Brophy East Swim Team, won in 1:53.06. Meanwhile, Zachary Anderson, swimming unattached, took second in 1:56.58. Nick Brunelli of Sun Devil Aquatics finished right behind in 1:56.62 for third place.

Men's 200 Freestyle

Women's 100 back
Sun Devil Aquatics dominated the race with the top four slots. Caitlin Andrew won her second race of the evening with a time of 1:07.17. Teammates Mirela Kardasevic (1:07.50), Ashley Brewer (1:08.79) and Rik Brunner (1:08.82) picked up second, third and fourth place, respectively.

Men's 100 back
After falling to third in the 200 free, Sun Devil Aquatics' Nick Brunelli clocked a 59.27 to claim the men's 100 back. Nashville Aquatic Club's Hayes Johnson came in second in 59.60, while Mark Chay, swimming unattached, took third in 1:00.61.

Women's 400 IM
Danielle Milligan of Scottsdale Aquatic Club easily won the 400 IM in 5:01.87, while Sun Devil Aquatics' Christine Olson pocketed second in 5:05.94. Jenni Stratton, of the David Douglas Swim Team, placed third in 5:05.99.

Neil Hamilton, swimming unattached, took home the men's 400 IM title in 4:39.14, while Nate Telep of the Scottsdale Aquatic Club finished second in 4:42.94. Gunnar Schmidt of the Scottsdale Aquatic Club rounded out the top three in 4:45.00.

Relay Winners
The David Douglas Swim Club team of Lily Donohue, Jojo Miller, Anna Humphrey and Laura Miller won the women's 400 medley relay in a time of 4:33.50. Meanwhile, the Nashville Aquatic Club quartet of Hayes Johnson, Curtis Lovelace, Jordan Slaughter and Dakota Hodgson claimed the men's 400 medley relay in 4:03.32 to close out the third night of swimming under the lights at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
