Caeleb Dressel Tops Qualifying in 50 Freestyle & 50 Breaststroke at ISCA Senior Cup

Racing at the ISCA Senior Cup in St. Petersburg, Caeleb Dressel produced a pair of impressive preliminary performances on Thursday morning, as he earned the top seed for finals in the 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle. The meet is being held in a unique format, with the morning featuring short-course racing and the evening featuring long-course action.

Dressel started his day by posting the fastest time in the 50-yard breaststroke, thanks to an effort of 23.99. He was followed by Ilya Evdokimov (24.70). Later in the session, Dressel climbed the blocks for his prime event, the 50 freestyle, and came away with another stellar performance. This time, Dressel was timed in 19.03. Notably, Jack Conger (20.04) and Joseph Schooling (20.09) also raced the event.

Mitch D’Arrigo was the top qualifier in the 500-yard freestyle, behind a time of 4:16.02.

On Wednesday night, Ryan Lochte and Dressel went head-to-head in the finals in the 200-meter individual medley, with Lochte emerging as the winner.
