CAA Conference: Day Two

RICHMOND, Virginia, February 27. FIVE records were broken on the second day of the 2009 CAA Swimming & Diving Championships at Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va. Towson leads the women's competition after day two with 235 points, while William & Mary (212 pts) and George Mason (206 pts) are close behind. UNC Wilmington leads the men's competition with 242 points, followed by Old Dominion with 213 and George Mason with 212.

Towson's Meredith Budner started the record-setting day by collecting her second CAA meet victory in the 500-yard freestyle. Clocking in at 4:45.31, she broke her own record from last year's championship by just under four seconds.

The next mark to fall was the women's 200-yard individual medley as George Mason's Ashley Danner finished with a time of 1:59.99. William & Mary's Ruth Anne Miller has held the record for the past five years with a time of 2:03.29 in 2003.

William & Mary's Katie Radloff collected the victory in the 50-yard freestyle for the third year in a row, breaking her own record by three-tenths of a second, as she touched the wall in 22.30.

In the women's 200-yard freestyle relay, William & Mary's team of Emily Burns, Lindsay Guers, Marina Falcone and Radloff set a new meet record with a time of 1:31.20. The same four women set the record at last year's meet with a time of 1:33.22.

UNC Wilmington's men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Robert Anderson, Ben Clark, Seth Liston and Bobby Guntoro broke the last record of the day, stopping the clock at 1:20.48, which was four-tenths of a second faster than the UNCW team in 2002.

George Mason's Preston Wolter collected first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:26.06, while Old Dominion's Johan Lundberg finished first in the 200-yard individual medley. Lundberg's teammate, Arni Mar Arnason claimed the victory in the men's 50-yard freestyle in 19.85.

In the men's one-meter board finals, George Mason's Bryan Bahr topped all divers with a score of 337.70, followed by Drexel's Ian Jevnick with 319.70.

The championship continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. with trials in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststoke and 100-yard backstroke. Women's one-meter diving preliminaries begin at 1 p.m., while the finals begin at 6 p.m.
