NEW COMMIT: Jasmine Hellmer has verbally committed to swim for Northwestern University beginning in the fall of 2018, according to her Instagram profile.

She attends Flint High School and swims for Nation’s Capital. She’s a USA Swimming All-American and was an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100 fly. She’s the 2017 Virginia Independent Schools state champion in the 200 IM and 100 free.

Hellmer is a fairly versatile swimmer, though strongest in butterfly and sprint free. Her top times are:

  • 100 Fly 53.51
  • 200 Fly 1:59.89
  • 50 Free 23.27
  • 100 Free 50.56
  • 200 IM 2:01.47

At Northwestern, Hellmer should be a significant contributor at the Conference level. Her best 100 fly time would have placed her in the B final of the 2017 Big Ten Championships. Northwestern had just one scoring swimmer, Krystal Lara (54.33) in the C final.

Hellmer also would have been a 200 butterfly C finalist. She’d also be a great addition to the team’s medley relays. Northwestern’s 11th place 400 medley relay included a 55.89 butterfly split. The two plus seconds Hellmer can chop off that time would have moved the team into ninth.

She joins Emma Theobald in the Class of 2022.
