Bulldogs Add Travis Stensby To Staff

BOILING SPRINGS, North Carolina, September 5. HEAD swim coach Mike Simpson, in conjunction with the Gardner-Webb athletics department, has announced the hiring of Travis Stensby as the full time assistant coach for the swim team. Stensby will oversee men's recruiting and the distance group.

"We felt like Travis was a fantastic fit for our program," Simpson said. "He has been a real student of the sport. Travis has a great background with tremendous experience. He swam for two of the best college coaches in the nation – Dennis Dale and Doug Grooms. We feel like Travis is going to help take the program to another level."

Stensby comes to Gardner-Webb after serving as a project engineer for Counsilman – Hunsaker since 2007. In 2008, he was also the volunteer swim coach with the STOP swim club. In addition to his instructing small groups on stroke technique, he also filled in and coached the senior group when the head coach was not available.

Prior to the job where he coordinated the design of commercial swim pools, Stensby was the swimming coach at Bellevue Swim Club. There, he was responsible for planning and directing swim classes and practice while instructing multiple levels of swimmers individually and in a team setting.

Stensby earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Missouri-Rolla, where he was a member of the swim team. He was a three-year letterwinner after transferring from Minnesota before his sophomore season. At Missouri-Rolla, he was a Division II Collegiate All-American and an Academic All-American. After finishing his senior season, he was named the 2007 UMR Gale Bullman Award for Outstanding Athlete.

Special thanks to Gardner-Webb for contributing this report.
