Bucknell Bison Gains Verbal From NOVA Sprinter Christian Stef
NEW COMMIT: Corona, Calif. native Christian Stef will make the move to Lewisburg, Penn. next fall to join the Bucknell class of 2023.
Stef does his club swimming with Irvine Novaquatics and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 200m free, and he won that event at the MVN Junior Olympics this summer. He recorded a best time at Juniors West last winter and he notched five lifetime bests and was a four-time finalist at Carlsbad Speedo Sectionals in March where his highest finish was a ninth-place showing in the 100 free.
Also representing Centennial, Stef has competed at the CIF State Championships each of his last two high school seasons. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed fifth in both the 100 free and 200 free at CIF-Central Sections during his junior campaign.
He told Swimming World:
“Super excited to announce my verbal commitment to Bucknell University. I can’t wait to be a part of the program to swim and study there starting next year.”
His best times include:
- 50 free – 21.57
- 100 free – 46.22
- 200 free – 1:39.88
- 100 back – 51.99
When he suits up for the Bison at the start of the 2019-20 season, he will join a young but talented sprint freestyle group that includes Liam Pitt, Jack Rose and Sean Quinn. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 free at the 2018 Patriot League Championships where Bucknell finished third overall in the team standings.
