NEW COMMIT: East Falmouth, Mass. Breaststroker Francesca Pucillo has announced her commitment to the University of Vermont and will join the Catamounts this fall.

Pucillo swims year-round with the Cape Cod Firefish Swim Team and most recently raced at the New England Senior Championships in December where she finaled in the 200 breast. She placed 10th in the 200m breast at Buffalo Speedo Sectionals and achieved a pair of lifetime bests at the New England 15-18 Age Group Championships last March. Pucillo also represented Bishop Stang High School at the Massachusetts DII State Championships as a junior where she placed tenth in the 200 free and 11th in the 100 breast.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of Vermont! UVM has so many amazing opportunities both academically and athletically. As soon as I walked on campus I felt at home in Burlington with the team and Coach Gerry. A huge thank you to all my family, friends, coaches, and teammates that helped me get here, I couldn’t have done it without you! Go Cats!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:08.49
  • 200 breast – 2:26.85

When she arrives in Burlington as a member of the class of 2023, Pucillo will provide Vermont much-needed breaststroke depth following the graduation of Haley Gula and Sara Meyer. She would’ve scored in the B-final of both breaststroke events at the 2018 America East Championships where the Catamounts placed third overall in the team standings.
