NEW COMMITS: Chicago, Ill. native Summer Brainin and Fia McCarty of Oakwood, Ohio have handed Boston University two verbal commitments beginning in the fall of 2021.

Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Boston University!! I’m very thankful for my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me throughout the years. I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing team!! #rollterriers ?”
Primarily a sprinter, Brainin swims year-round with Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club and placed fourth in the 100 free and seventh in the 50 free at Illinois Seniors in March. Last summer, she finaled in both the 50m and 100m free at Illinois LCM Seniors before going on to earn a trio of lifetime bests at NCSAs.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.62
- 100 free – 51.12
- 200 free – 1:57.03
- 100 fly – 58.97
Also competing for Saint Ignatius College Prep, Brianin has competed at the Illinois State Championships the last three seasons. She was the runner-up in the 50 free at the Saint Ignatius Section Meet as a junior while taking first in that event during her sophomore year.

Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career swimming at Boston University! I want to thank my coaches, my friends, my family and especially my mom for helping me through this process! Go Terriers! ❤️”
A strong breaststroker and IMer, McCarty does her club swimming with Dayton Raiders and placed fifth in the 200m breast at the MAKO Senior Circuit in March. She notched two best times at Ohio LCM Seniors last summer and raced three events at Geneva Futures.
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 30.82
- 100 breast – 1:05.42
- 200 breast – 2:22.07
- 200 IM – 2:10.47
A current senior at Oakwood High School, McCarty placed 12th in the 100 breast at the Ohio State Championships in her junior campaign. She also placed third in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 breast in 2020 at the SW District Meet while winning the latter at the SWBL Conference Championships.
