Bluefish Swim Club’s Jessie Tobin has given her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Tampa beginning in the 2017-2018 season.

She shared on her Instagram, “Excited to officially announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of Tampa! Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way! Go Spartans!”

Tobin is from Pittsfield, Massachusetts and attends St. Joseph’s High School. She swims under Nick Rice at Bluefish. At the 2016 Massachusetts Division 1 Girls State Championship she finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in a lifetime best time. Her best 500 freestyle time also comes from February when she tied for bronze in the event.

Her best times are:

  • 50 Free 25.08
  • 100 Free 54.38
  • 200 Free 1:55.54
  • 500 Free 5:06.23
  • 1000 Free 10:44.62

The 1000 is an event in the Division II Sunshine State Conference. Tobin would have just slipped into scoring range there. Freshman Makayla Ayers (10:10.95) was runner up last year. Next fall that distance training group will also still include Britt Bayes (10:25.65), Emma Hutchings (10:39.23), Ali Lombardi (10:40.36), and Victoria Horsman (10:40.87). Tobin would also have contributed a few points in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
