Big Ten Saturday Recap: Ohio State Sweeps Kentucky in Two-Day Meet

The Ohio State men and women swept Kentucky and Toledo on Saturday.

The No. 18 Buckeyes beat Kentucky in the men’s meet 210.5-178.5 and the No. 13 women won 204-185 over the No. 15 Wildcats.

Michael Salazar won the 100 butterfly (47.62). Mark Belanger won the 100 backstroke (48.74). Kevin Musterait won the 50 freestyle (20.46).

Meg Bailey won the 400 IM (4:14.85). Hanna Gresser won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.22).

For Kentucky, Asia Seidt and junior Geena Freriks led the way for the UK women on Saturday, each earning multiple victories on the day.

Seidt had wins in all three of her individual events on Saturday. Her first victory came in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.15, before touching first in the 100 backstroke at 53.34. An NCAA ‘B’ standard time of 1:58.34 in the 200 IM solidified her third win of the day.

Freriks swept the middle distance freestyle events for the Wildcats, winning the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Her winning time of 4:46.34 in the 500 free is an NCAA ‘B’ standard time.

For the men’s team, sophomore Glen Brown picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, winning both the 200 and 400 IM.  Isaac Jones added two victories for the Wildcats, winning both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races. In the morning session, Jones clocked in at 1:38.09 to take the 200 free title before coming back to win the 500 with a time of 4:22.96.
