Big Ten Recaps: Strong Swims for Indiana, Minnesota

The Indiana University men’s and women’s swimming teams ended the Miami (Ohio) Invitational on a high note, winning three events.

In the men’s 200-yared butterfly, Brian Valedon won in an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:46.71.

Joey Snodderly earned the win in the 1,650 freestyle with a NCAA B cut time of 15:18.08.

Shelby Koontz tallied the Hoosiers’ third win, touching the wall first in the 100 freestyle with a personal-best and NCAA “B” cut time of 49.98.

Minnesota shines at home invite

The Minnesota women scored two diving wins at the Jean Freeman Invitational. Yu Zhou scored 349.70 to win 1-meter ahead of teammates Sarah Bacon (326.50) and Beth Etterman (267.30). Lexi Tenenbaum won platform with a score of 322.50.

Chantal Nack won the 200 back in 1:55.43. Nack posted a 1:48.06 for first in the 200 free.

Madison Preiss (personal-record 2:00.85), Dani Bergeson (2:02.19) and Maggie Werba (2:06.75) went 1-2-3 in the 200 IM.

In the men’s meet, Matt Barnard scored 441.68 on the 3-meter diving board for a dominant victory. Alan LeBlang was second at 377.05.

Nick Plachinski (personal-record 4:25.00) and Justin Torres (4:33.39) claimed the top two spots in the 500 free. Brian Poon (1:48.17) and Jonathon Thielen (1:49.94) went 1-2 in the 200 IM.
