Big Ten Women Championships Day 3 Prelims: Clary, King, Haughey Top Seeds

The third day events began at the Women’s Big Ten Championships on Firday at Purdue.

Here is a look at what happened in prelims:

100 butterfly

Indiana’s Gia Dalesandro took the top seed in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 51.79.

Ohio State’s Zhesi Li was second in 51.98, followed by Wisconsin’s Dana Grindall (52.08), Michigan’s Vanessa Krause (52.46), Wisconsin’s Elizabeth Nelson (52.68), Minnesota’s Danielle Nack (52.91), Minnesota’s Tevyn Waddell and Indiana’s Christine Jensen (52.98).

400 IM

Ohio State’s Lindsey Clary took the top seed in the 400 IM, clocking a 4:06.63 in prelims.

Penn State’s Allyson McHugh took the second seed (4:06.91), followed by Michigan’s Yirong Bi (4:09.74), Ohio State’s Kathrine Demler (4:09.79), Wisconsin’s Danielle Valley (4:10.41), Ohio State’s Meg Bailey (4:10.71), Minnesota’s Breanne Siwicki (4:11.05) and Indiana’s Samantha Lisy (4:11.69).

200 free

Michigan’s Siobhan Haughey took the top seed in the 200 free at 1:43.93 as the Wolverines send four into the finals.

Indiana’s Kennedy Goss was second (1:43.99), followed by Wisconsin’s Cierra Runge (1:44.57), Michigan’s Gabby DeLoof (1:44.87), G Ryan (1:44.94) and Rebecca Postoll (1:45.44), Indiana’s Maria Heitmann (1:45.74) and Purdue’s Kaersten Meitz (1:45.88).

100 breaststroke

Indiana’s Lilly King broke the pool record to take the top seed in the 100 breaststroke in an NCAA ‘A’ cut time of 57.46.

Minnesota’s Linsdey Horejsi also achieved an ‘A’ standard with a 58.96 to take the second seed.

Wisconsin’s Maria Carlson was third (59.30), followed by Iowa’s Emma Sougstad (59.36), Minnesota’s Kierra Smith (59.57), Michigan’s Emily Kopas (59.79), Minnesota’s Rachel Munson (1:00.58) and Purdue’s Cady Farlow (1:00.89).

100 backstroke

Wisconsin’s Elizabeth Nelson took the top seed in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 51.22.

Michigan’s Clara Smiddy was second (52.37), followed by Minnesota’s Tevyn Waddell (52.41), Indiana’s Alexandra Rockett (52.67), Minnesota’s Zoe Avestruz (52.70), Wisconsin’s Jessica Unicomb (53.01), Michigan’s Gabby DeLoof (53.09) and Indiana’s Gia Dalesandro (53.24).
