Big East Quad Meet

STORRS, Connecticut, October 28. UNIVERSITY of Connecticut freshman Lachezar Shumkov (Sofia, Bulgaria) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.14 seconds and the 200-yard IM in 1:58.73 in the first day of a four-way swimming and diving meet between BIG EAST schools UConn, Rutgers, Georgetown and Villanova. The event concludes on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m.

UConn leads the Villanova men 130-55 and the Georgetown men 137-46. Villanova leads the Georgetown men 105-78. The UConn women trail the Villanova women 97-89, are tied with Rutgers 93-93 and lead Georgetown 160-26. Rutgers leads Villanova 100-86 and Georgetown 167-19 while Villanova leads Georgetown 146-40.

Junior Karim Zayed won the 200-yard freestyle for the UConn men in 1:42.25 while sophomore Keith Piper (Naperville, Ill.) won the 100-yard backstroke in 52.31 seconds. Junior Grant Fecteau (Delmar , N.Y.) won the three-meter diving with 324.40 points.

Junior Danielle Cecco (Hicksville, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving on the women's side with 305.30 points. Sophomore Kati Kyle (Lithia, Fla.) won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.46 seconds while senior Ye Ling (Lake Worth, Fla.) won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.56 seconds.
