Big Day for Bluefish Swim Club at Buffalo Speedo Sectionals

Bluefish Swim Club had a strong second day of the 2018 Speedo Sectionals Championship Series in Buffalo, NY. They currently lead the team scores with 314 points, followed by North Baltimore (306.5), Scarlet (289), Berkeley (190) and Allegheny North (136).

Berkeley’s Sophia Kudryashova won a close women’s 200 free race, stopping the clock in 2:03.70. The Fish’s Madelyn Donohoe took second in a close 2:03.79 and North Baltimore’s Megan Drumm was third in 2:04.97.

Scarlet’s Oludare Rose won the men’s 200 free, getting his hand to the wall first in 1:52.08. Allegheny North’s Mason Gonzalez (1:52.67) was close behind in second and his teammate Jack Wright (1:52.83) finished third.

The women’s 100 breast race went to North Baltimore’s Samantha Ai with a time of 1:12.71. Her teammate Lauren Poole was right behind in 1:13.09 for second and Berkeley’s Clarissa Sabin took third in 1:13.23.

Velocity’s Luke Otto cruised to first in the men’s 100 breast after touching the wall in 1:04.80. Second went to Baldwin’s David Abtahams (1:05.50) and third went to Bluefish’s River Wright (1:05.75).

Fourteen-year-old Summer Smith of Bluefish won the women’s 100 fly in a time of 1:03.22, followed by her teammate Gianna Spremullo in 1:03.70. Allegheny North’s Ella Ogden was third in 1:04.20.

Solo’s Matthew Yish, who is headed to Auburn in the fall, won the men’s fly in 54.83. Wright was a close second in 54.95 and Gonzalez took third in 55.03.

Islanders’ Makayla Sargent won the women’s 400 IM by nearly four seconds, getting the gold in 4:49.32. Poole grabbed the silver in 4:53.19 and bronze went to NYS Aquatics’ Jessica Pryne in 4:58.19.

Future Tar Heel Harrison Homans of Bluefish won the men’s 400 IM in 4:29.34. Rose took second in 4:31.82 and third went to Ridgefield’s Yeziel Morales in 4:38.95.

North Baltimore’s Drumm (2:07.83), Ai (2:06.01), Allison Tomsuden (2:07.62) and Poole (2:10.73) combined to dominate the women’s 4×200 free relay in 8:32.19. Scarlet finished second in 8:41.46 and The Fish took third in 8:42.74.

Bluefish’s Homans (1:57.50), Wright, Barao and William Hein (1:59.84) won the men’s 4×200 free relay to conclude the second day with a time of 7:48.84. Scarlet took second in7:51.85 and Berkeley took third in 8:02.25.
