The No. 1 University of Texas Men’s Swimming and Diving team swept the season’s Big 12 Conference weekly awards for the second straight time, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Caspar Corbeau was named Swimmer of the Week, while senior Jordan Windle claimed his second-straight Diver of the Week accolades.

During the prestigious Toyota U.S. Open (Nov. 12-14), Corbeau placed fifth overall (first in the San Antonio event site) in the 200-meter long course breaststroke with an Olympic Trials cut time of 2:14.37. He also recorded a 12th-place finish overall (first in the San Antonio event site) in the 100-meter long course breaststroke with an Olympic Trials cut time of 1:01.77.

In a head-to-head showdown against LSU star and 2019 World Championships bronze medalist Juan Celaya Hernandez, Windle won both the 3-meter and platform events during the three-day UT Diving Invitational (Nov. 19-21). In the 3-meter competition, Windle caught fire beginning with his third dive, a reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck, and posted a score of 91.88 (scores of 8.5 and 9.0) to take a comfortable lead (238.43-210.68) over Hernandez. Windle followed with a score of 91.20 on his fourth dive, a forward 4 ½ somersault tuck, to increase his cushion. He sealed his victory with scores of 81.60 and 73.95 in his final two dives to register a six-round total of 485.18. Hernandez claimed second place with a score of 467.55.

In a tightly-contested men’s platform final, it was Hernandez who held the lead (158.40-131.25) after the first two rounds. Windle posted an eye-opening score of 96.53 on his third dive, a back 3 ½ somersault tuck (207c), which included one of the two judges awarding a perfect 10 score (the second judge scored the dive as 9.5). That result helped Windle climb within three points of Hernandez (230.48-227.78). Windle grabbed the lead (302.70-292.88) with a score of 74.93 on his fourth dive, a forward 4 ½ somersault tuck. The UT senior then added to his cushion (391.95-374.25) on his fifth dive, a reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck, with a score of 89.25 (scores of 8.5 and 9.0). Despite an outstanding score of 91.80 by Hernandez on his sixth and final dive, Windle posted a 78.30 on his back 2 ½ somersault 2 ½ twist pike to earn a 470.25-466.05 victory.

University of Texas junior Paola Pineda earned the Big 12 Conference Women’s Diver of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Pineda won the 3-meter and platform events and placed second on the 1-meter board at last weekend’s UT Diving Invitational (Nov. 19-21).
