Big 12 Weekly Honors: Drew Kibler, Kelly Pash Lead Texas Honorees

The No. 1 University of Texas Men’s Swimming and Diving team swept the season’s first Big 12 Conference weekly awards, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Junior Drew Kibler was named Swimmer of the Week, while senior Jordan Windle claimed Diver of the Week accolades.

During the First Chance Invitational (Oct. 16-17), Kibler won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:08.26, narrowly missing the pool and school record (4:08.19) set by Townley Haas. It was well below the NCAA “A” cut standard (4:11.82). Kibler also posted an NCAA “A” cut time in the 200-yard freestyle win the following day (1:31.10). In UT’s dual-meet win against No. 7 Texas A&M (Oct. 30), Kibler won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle and swam the anchor leg on the winning 400-yard medley relay.

Windle dominated the competition in UT’s dual-meet victory against No. 7 Texas A&M. He posted a six-round score of 438.15 points to claim the win on the 1-meter board, easily outdistancing the runner-up finisher (350.10). Windle also registered a six-round score of 456.90 points to earn the victory on the 3-meter board, again well in front of the second-place finisher (410.18).

No. 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving sweeps Big 12 weekly awards

The No. 8 University of Texas Women’s Swimming and Diving team swept the season’s first Big 12 Conference weekly awards, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Kelly Pash was named Swimmer of the Week, while freshman Bridget O’Neil claimed Diver of the Week accolades.

In UT’s dual-meet victory against No. 17 Texas A&M (Oct. 30), Pash won the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.42), 100-yard freestyle (49.53) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.75). A few weeks earlier at the Dust Off Your Boots Invitational (Oct. 16-17), she posted NCAA “B” cut times in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.22) and 400-yard individual medley (4:08.45).

In her collegiate dual-meet opener versus No. 17 Texas A&M, O’Neil won the 1-meter board with a score of 325.35 points and placed second on the 3-meter board (358.20). At the Dust Off Your Boots Invitational, she claimed victories on both the 1-meter (320.20) and 3-meter (337.35) boards.

The Longhorns return to action on Nov. 12-14 (Thursday-Saturday) at the Toyota U.S. Open in San Antonio, Texas.
