Big 12 Swimming and Diving Postseason Awards Announced

IRVING, Texas, April 5. THE Big 12 Conference announced the postseason swimming & diving awards for the 2006-07 season. Honorees were selected by a vote of the league's coaches.

Conference honors were awarded to the following individuals: Men- Swimmer of the Year: Garrett Weber-Gale (Texas); Diver of the Year: Eric Sehn (Texas A&M); Newcomer of the Year: Ricky Berens (Texas); Swimming Coach of the Year: Eddie Reese (Texas); Diving Coach of the Year: Kevin Wright (Texas A&M). Women- Swimmer of the Year: Kristen Heiss (Texas A&M) ; Diver of the Year: Jessica Livingston (Texas); Newcomer of the Year: Alia Atkinson (Texas A&M); Swimming Coach of the Year: Steve Bultman (Texas A&M); Diving Coach of the Year: Matt Scoggin (Texas).

Weber-Gale claimed third in the 100 freestyle and set a Texas record of 41.94. The mark surpassed his school record of 42.11 set at the 2006 NCAA Championships. Sehn, the Big 12 Outstanding Diver of the Meet for the past three years, won third-place on the platform at the NCAA Meet. Berens (Outstanding Newcomer of the Meet at the Big 12 Championships) claimed victory in the 100-yard butterfly at the Big 12 Championship meet.

Seven-time Big 12 Coach of the Championship Meet, Reese is an eight-time NCAA Coach of the Year and three-time United States Men's Olympic Team head coach. Wright (five-time Dive Coach of the Big 12 Championship) has led the Aggie divers to 43 All-America honors under his tutelage. Weber-Gale, Sehn, Reese and Wright have all earned this honor on more than one occasion.

Heiss broke the school record for the backstroke (1:54.45) at the 2007 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. Livingston has been selected to represent Team USA at the upcoming FINA Grand Prix Canada Cup. She captured the women's platform diving title at the NCAA Championships. Atkinson ended her first NCAA meet with an eighth-place finish in the consolation final of the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.19). She scored 10 individual points for the Aggies at the meet.

Bultman led the Aggie women to their first ever top-10 finish at the NCAA Championship as they walked away with eighth-place. Scoggin, a former U.S. Olympic diver and 2000 USA Olympic assistant diving coach completed his 12th season as head coach, leading Livingston to her individual title.
