Bentley vs. St. Michael’s

WALTHAM, Massachusetts, January 10. SENIOR Willie Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley HS), sophomore Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) and freshman Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) each won two individual events as the Bentley University men's swim team ended a five-week semester break with a 144-90 win over St. Michael's College Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center pool.

Connolly posted wins in the 200 yard individual medley (2:08.71) and the 200 breaststroke (2:03.81) after swimming the opening leg on the Falcons' winning 200 medley relay team (1:44.96).

Champagne outswam the competition in both the 1000 free (10:43.41) and the 500 free (5:09.07), and Walsh captured both diving events. He had scores of 226.80 off the one-meter and 216.70 off the three-meter.

Also posting individual wins for Bentley were junior Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./ Conard HS) in the 200 free (1:54.41), sophomore Joe Frantel (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman HS) in the 50 free (23.01) and sophomore Matt Wessels (Epsom, N.H./Bishop Brady HS) in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.78). Wessels was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay team, along with senior Sam Laden (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and junior Chris Horan (Hanover/Boston College HS).

Bentley, which improved to 3-2, will host Norwich University at 4 pm Tuesday.

For the women, junior Anne Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) turned in winning performances in three individual events to help lead Bentley University to a 158-76 win over St. Michael's in women's college swimming Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center pool.

Bentley captured 12 of 13 events in the meet en route to its fifth win in six dual meets this season. Included were sweeps of the top three places in three events: 50 yard freestyle, one-meter diving and 200 breaststroke.

Kaduboski, unbeaten in individual events in dual meets this season, was victorious in the 1000 freestyle (11:10.33), the 200 butterfly (2:13.96) and the 200 backstroke (2:16.14).

Freshman Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) also had a solid effort for the Falcons. She finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:17.76) and the 200 breast (2:33.93), and was a part of the Falcons' winning 200 medley relay (1:57.35).

Abby Mathews (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS), also a freshman, was the other Falcon to win two individual events. She swept the diving, with winning efforts of 227.45 off the one-meter board and 234.35 off the three-meter.

Another freshman who had an impact was Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS). She was first in the 50 freestyle (26.13), was part of the 200 medley relay team, and also helped Bentley to the best time in the 200 free relay (1:51.95).

Completing Bentley's list of individual winners were sophomore Susie Boretti (Westford/ Westford Academy) in the 200 free (2:08.00) and senior Carolyn Connolly (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) in the 100 free (59.24).

The team's next competition is on Wednesday night, a triangular with Western New England at Regis College.
