Ben Gill Named Head Coach at Loras College

Ben Gill has been named the next head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at Loras College, Director of Athletics Denise Udelhofen announced on Monday.

“We feel that Ben will be a great fit at Loras College,” Director of Athletics Denise Udelhofen said. “Ben brings with him a wide range of experience and has proven to be successful in the swimming arena. We’re confident that under Ben’s direction, our swimming and diving programs will be taken to the next level.”

Gill comes to Loras from La Crosse, Wisconsin where he has been the Head Coach at the La Crosse Area Family YMCA. Six of Gill’s athletes have qualified for YMCA Nationals under his direction since June of 2014. At the YMCA State Meet, Gill’s squad placed third and was home to multiple state champions.

Prior to his time in La Crosse, Gill spent two years in St. Cloud, Minnesota as a graduate assistant at St. Cloud State University. As a part of the coaching staff, St. Cloud claimed nine Division II All-Americans as well as claiming back-to-back NSIC Conference Championships on the women’s side.

Gill’s coaching history includes stops at the St. Cloud YMCA in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the Fox Cities YMCA in Appleton, Wisconsin, Stanford University, and St. Benedict’s College, totaling more than eight years of coaching experience.

“I am very honored and excited at the opportunity to lead the Loras Swimming and Diving Team,” Gill said. “I look forward to joining the athletic department at Loras College which has a strong tradition of academic and athletic success. The team is on the verge of taking the next step and I look forward to being a part of this exciting time in Duhawk Swimming and Diving.”

A 2007 graduate of St. Cloud State University, Gill earned his degree in english. As a part of his graduate assistant program, he earned his master’s degree in english studies.
