Belgium Posts Entries for Short Course World Championships
Olympic silver medalist Pieter Timmers and seven of his Belgian teammates will be back in international waters next month for the Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada.
Timmers won a surprising silver medal behind Kyle Chalmers in the men’s 100 free this summer in Rio, edging out defending champion Nathan Adrian and surpassing the best time of his role model, Pieter van den Hoogenband, a 47.84 which stood as the world record for eight years.
Timmers will swim the 50, 100 and 200 free in Windsor, as well as the 800 free relay with teammates Louis Croenen, Thomas Thijs and Lorenz Weiremans. Jasper Aerents will be competing alongside Timmers in the 50 and 100 free, and Lander Hendrickx will swim both the 400 and 1500 free.
Croenen will compete in the 100 and 200 fly, and Jonas Coreelman will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststrokes. On the women’s side, Belgium’s roster for Windsor will consist of Kimberly Buys, who will enter the 50 fly and 100 fly, along with the 100 free, and Fanny Lecluyse, who is slated for all three breaststroke events and the 100 IM.
