Belgium Posts Entries for Short Course World Championships

The Belgium flag, one of the many flags represented on the testing site area, waves in the wind during the exercise COMBINED ENDEAVOR (CE) 2000. CE 2000, currently hosted by Germany, is the largest information and communication systems exercise in the world. This exercise is the sixth in a series of multinational communication interoperability workshops where military personnel from 35 nations get together for 14 days to focus on Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) interoperability testing and documentation and to meet and interact on a personal level.

Olympic silver medalist Pieter Timmers and seven of his Belgian teammates will be back in international waters next month for the Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada.

Timmers won a surprising silver medal behind Kyle Chalmers in the men’s 100 free this summer in Rio, edging out defending champion Nathan Adrian and surpassing the best time of his role modelPieter van den Hoogenband, a 47.84 which stood as the world record for eight years.

Timmers will swim the 50, 100 and 200 free in Windsor, as well as the 800 free relay with teammates Louis CroenenThomas Thijs and Lorenz WeiremansJasper Aerents will be competing alongside Timmers in the 50 and 100 free, and Lander Hendrickx will swim both the 400 and 1500 free.

Croenen will compete in the 100 and 200 fly, and Jonas Coreelman will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststrokes. On the women’s side, Belgium’s roster for Windsor will consist of Kimberly Buys, who will enter the 50 fly and 100 fly, along with the 100 free, and Fanny Lecluyse, who is slated for all three breaststroke events and the 100 IM.
