NEW COMMIT: Chester Heights, Penn. native Amy Townend has announced her commitment to Bates College and will suit up for the Bobcats this upcoming fall.

Townend swims year-round with Suburbans Seahawks Club and earned a best time at the NCAP Invitational last month after placing 17th in the 800m free at Mid-Atlantic LCM Seniors this past summer. Last short course season, she finished sixth in the mile at Mid-Atlantic SCY Seniors. Also competing for Garnet Valley High School, Townend competed in the 500 free at the Pennsylvania State Championships during her sophomore season. She has also qualified for Open Water Junior Nationals.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Bates College. I can’t possibly thank my friends and family enough for supporting me along this journey. Go Bobcats! #rollcats”

Her best times include:

  • 500 free – 5:08.59
  • 1000 free – 10:42.88
  • 1650 free – 17:42.20
  • 200 IM – 2:10.88
  • 400 IM – 4:37.13

Townend will add valuable depth to the Bobcats’ lineup when she arrives in Lewiston as a member of the class of 2024. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 500 free, placed top-20 of the 1000 free and top-14 of the mile at the 2019 NESCAC Championships.
