Australian Grand Prix, Sydney: Cate Campbell Smokes Monaco 50 Free; Grant Hackett Clocks Quick 1500 Free

SYDNEY, Australia, July 6. IT was a tale of two distances as the Telstra Grand Prix stop came to a close in Sydney. Cate Campbell opened the night with a vengeance as she tore through the 50 free in a Monaco knockout against Libby Trickett. Meanwhile, Grant Hackett put together a sterling time in the 1500 free.

Campbell, who already has a 24.13 to her credit from the Santa Clara meet in the U.S., registered a 24.17 in the 50 free in Sydney. The time stands as the fifth fastest ever, with only Trickett (23.97) and Marleen Veldhuis (24.09) being faster. Campbell also went on to win the 100 free in 54.20.

Hackett, on the other hand, checked in with a 14:51.62 to claim the men's 1500 free title. That was only a few seconds off his top time this year of 14:48.65 from the Aussie Trials.
