It is invitational week across the country in college swimming. There are several big meets this weekend in all parts of the country.

The Midwest has the Ohio State Invitational and the South has the Georgia Tech Invitational. The East has the North Carolina State invite and the Southwest has the Art Adamson Invitational.

This event, hosted by the Mansfield Independent School District Natatorium, in Mansfield, Texas, will be close to home for Texas A&M. It is a three-day event from Thursday-Saturday.

The Aggies started the season 2-1 in the men’s competition, most recently losing a close meet to Florida on Nov. 5.

Brock Bonetti and Mauro Castillo have been strong performers for the Aggies this season. Bonetti has earned NCAA provisional qualifying times in both backstroke events, while Castillo has done the same in both breaststroke events. Castillo won the 100 breast in 54.18 and the 200 breast in 1:57.53 against Florida, while Bonetti finished first in the 100 back in 48.02 and the 200 back in 1:44.62.

Meanwhile, the Texas A&M women are 4-1 with the lone loss coming to rival Texas. The Aggies earned a decisive victory over Florida on Nov. 5

Sarah Gibson has opened up an impressive season. Against Florida, she earned victories in the 1,000-yard freestyle, the 100 butterfly and the 200 butterfly. Gibson won the 1,000 free in 9:49.15, and then posted NCAA provisional cuts of 53.68 in the 100 fly and 1:57.59 in the 200 fly.

The Aggies will look to keep the success going against some strong teams, including LSU.

Missouri Diving Invitational

While the swimmers compete at Texas A&M, the Aggies will head to the Missouri Diving Invitational. The host Missouri Tigers also will be joined by several other strong teams from around the country, including LSU and Wisconsin. LSU’s Juan Celaya is coming off an impressive performance that saw him earn SEC Diver of the Week honors. The Mexican native will look to keep up his strong scores this weekend.
