Arrests Made in Michael Phelps Case

COLUMBIA, South Carolina, February 11. THE next development in the Michael Phelps bong usage story has just occurred as WIS-TV in South Carolina is reporting that the Richland County Sheriff's Department has made eight arrests from people involved in the party where the now infamous Phelps picture was taken.

However, the department has been taking some heat from various entities in South Carolina including the state's governor Mark Sanford.

According to WIS-TV, "On the FOX News Channel Sunday night, Geraldo Rivera asked Sanford whether Phelps should be prosecuted.

‘I don't see what it gets at this point,' said Sanford.

His spokesman told us Monday night Sanford is letting that quote stand."

Additionally, the department has confiscated the bong used in the image, and WIS-TV is reporting that the owner was trying to sell it on eBay for $100,000.

Phelps has not been charged, and has not yet admitted to actual marijuana usage. His initial public apology only admitted to bad judgment and that the image was authentic. That's a far cry from an actual court-admissible confession. Whether the sheriff's department will continue to try to force the issue to arrest and/or cite Phelps remains to be seen.
