Arizona State’s Stephen Estes Struck by Vehicle

TEMPE, Arizona, October 16. THIS past week has been traumatic, to say the least, for the Arizona State swimming and diving program. News broke earlier in the week that former swimmer James Rigg drowned after gaining unauthorized entry to the pool Monday morning. Now, word out of Tempe has current swimming Stephen Estes just being released from the hospital after being struck by a vehicle.

Just hours before Rigg passed away, Estes had pulled over to help a stranded vehicle. While helping that stranded driver, Estes was hit by a vehicle according to an article by the State Press. The article states that Estes sustained head injuries due to the accident, and is currently rehabbing to try to return to the team this season.

Estes is an All-Academic conference performer who is a breaststroke specialist. He carries a 3.79 GPA in mechanical engineering after walking on to the team as a graduate of Phoenix North High School.
