Arizona State Women Swim Past UCLA in Pac-12 Showdown

The No. 21 Arizona State women’s swimming and diving team held off No. 23 UCLA 175-125 on Friday.

The Sun Devils started strong as Charli Brown, Zoe Summar, Lindsay Looney and Erin Milligan won the 400 medley relay in 3:35.15.

Deniz Ertan won the 1000 free (9:36.84) and 500 free (4:44.42) for Arizona State. Ieva Maluka won the 200 free in 1:46.24 and 200 IM (1:58.31). Brown won the 100 backstroke (54.06). Looney won the 200 fly (1:55.49) and 100 fly (53.46). Milligan won the 50 free (22.70) and the 100 free (48.92).

Milligan, Indigo Armon, Elli Straume and Molly Batchelor won the 200 free relay in 1:30.32.

The Bruins earned their first podium sweep of the day in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sarah Bennetts topped the charts with a 1:00.09 effort in the event, and she was quickly followed by Ana Jih-Schiff and Eva Carlson who both finished in 1:00.84.

In the first dive event of the day the Bruins swept the podium in the 3-meter diving competition. Lauren Hallaselka topped the charts with a score of 321.08, Savana Trueb then placed second with a score of 292.50, while Zoe Jespersgaard finished third in the event in 289.80. The Bruins finished strongly in the 1-meter dive as well, sweeping the podium over Arizona State again. Hallaselka earned her second win of the afternoon with a score of 301.73, while Jespersgaard and Trueb placed second and third with scores of 266.03 and 237.30 respectively.

Rosie Murphy won UCLA’s third event of the day later on in the meet, when she won the 200-yard backstroke. The sophomore earned the win with a time of 1:56.19, her best time of the season.

But it wasn’t enough against Arizona State.
