Arizona State vs. Colorado State

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, January 24. THE Arizona State University water polo team opened its 2009 season with a 20-5 win over Colorado State at the Michigan Invitational on Saturday. Nine different Sun Devils scored goals in the game, as ASU won its season opener for the first time since 2006.

Senior Addison McGrath and sophomore Lynlee Smith, in her collegiate debut, scored four goals each, while freshman Mariam Salloum added three goals in her first college game.

Juniors Bonnie Miles and Kari Walsh and sophomore Lauren Hayes scored two goals apiece, while junior Jennifer Campo and sophomores Candice Phillippe and Sam Schubert each had one goal. Schubert also had five steals in her ASU debut.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Morris and freshman Dana Harvey had two saves each in the cage.

The Sun Devils dominated from the start, taking a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. They built their lead to 11-2 at the half and then 16-4 after three before going on to the 20-5 victory.

ASU will continue play at the Michigan Invitational later on Saturday, taking on No. 14 CS Northridge at 5 p.m. EST. The Sun Devils will then play Bucknell on Sunday at 11:15 a.m ET.
