Arizona State vs. Air Force

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona, November 5. AIR Force men's swim team defeated Arizona State 163.5-93.5 in a dual meet Friday afternoon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The Falcons improved to 7-1.

Air Force dominated the meet, taking first in 13 of 14 events. Senior Benjamin Gunn and freshman Paul Leonhardt led the way by combining to win five individual events.

Gunn won the 200 yard freestyle (1:40.94), the 200 backstroke (1:52.62) and 200 individual medley (1:53.22). In addition to being part of both winning relay groups, Leonhardt won the 100 (50.28) and 200 butterfly (1:53.20) events.

Junior Corydon Butler won the 1000 free with a time of 9:37.40. Junior Cole Smith won the 50 free with a time of 21.30. Freshman Micah Newmann won the 100 free with a time of 46.19.

The Falcons also go wins by freshman Angus MacDonald in the 100 back (51.53), junior Cody Deacon in the 100 breaststroke (57.37) and senior Josh Hammervold in the 200 breast (2:07.11).

Air Force won both the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Gunn, Deacon, Leonhardt and Smith combined to win the 200 medley with a time of 1:31.89. The group of Newmann, Smith, Leonhardt and senior Robert Dawson won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:07.59.

The men's team returns to action tomorrow at Grand Canyon.
