Are You A Top 20 Swimmer In Your Zone?

Each week, USA Swimming releases their top 20 zone times. Swimming World will provide a unique analysis of each zone. Here, you’ll find the zones’ strengths, top athletes, and top times. 

This is Swimming World’s first Top 20 Zone Times story of this short course season. We will be highlighting the newcomers to top of each event, age group and zone.

Eastern Zone

Girls: Nation’s Capital teammates Kate Hallmark (50 back) and Giulia Baroldi (200 IM) led the way for the 11-year old girls. Kristin Cornish (1650 free) and NOVA’s Zoe Dixon (100 back) also put their names atop the zone. In the next age group, Serafina Viola led the 12-year olds with two zones bests in the 50 and 100 free. Winchester Swim Team’s Molly Young (200 free) and Rockville Montgomery Swim Club’s Abby Carr (100 back) joined Viola atop the age group.

Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics had two 13-year old girls hit zone bests in Isabel Gormley (200 free and 400 IM) and Sophia Zhang (200 breast). Phoebe Bacon of Nation’s Capital (100 back) and Olivia Bray of the Virginia Gators (200 back) added their names atop the backstroke events.

Another Nation’s Capital swimmer, Katie Mack added her name to the list in the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 IM for the 14-year old girls. She was joined by teammate Charlotte Fieeiki (100 back) atop the age group. Virginia Gators teammates Caroline Kulp (200 fly and 500 free) and Emma Muzzy (400 IM) also made it to the top of the age group.

A trio of newcomers made it atop the 15-year old girls’ ranks. Oliva Jack (100 breast), Becca Evans (50 free), and Central Bucks Swim Team’s Morgan Scott (100 free) all swam zone bests.

Nation’s Capital was represented yet again in the 16-year old girls age group with Isabella Rongione‘s zone-topping 200 fly and 400 IM. Rockville Montgomery’s Jaycee Yegher chipped in top times in the 100 and 200 breast as well. Lindsay Stone (500 free) and Emma Corby (100 fly) also swam top times.

Katie Smith sprinted her way to the top of the 17-year old girls rankings in the 50 and 100 free. Jersey Wahoos swimmer Molly Kowal posted zone bests in the 1000 free and 200 breast, while Central Bucks swimmer Allie Szekely also chipped in two zone bests in teh 200 back and 200 fly. Hannah Cox of the Upper Valley Aquatic Club (500 free) and Grace Baumer (100 breast) also busted out zone bests.

Superstar Katie Ledecky of Nation’s Capital now has her name atop the 18-year old girls’ 50 free, 500 free, and 200 IM. Kaitlin Harty also posted three top times in the 200 free, 100 back, and 200 back.

Boys: In the 11-year old boys age group, there are three new top times at the apex of the Eastern Zone. Brock Mozoki of South Shore YMCA (50 free), Sean Santos of Rockville Montgomery Swim Club (1650 free), and Landon Gentry of Nation’s Capital (100 fly) all etched their names atop the age group.

Brett Feyerick of Nation’s Capital posted a number of zone bests for the 12-year old boys in the 50, 200, and 500 free, 50 and 100 back, and 200 IM. He leads the zone in eight total events. NOVA’s Attest Camurdan (100 free) and Aquatic Club of the West Shore’s Zachary Peiffer (50 fly) also hit top times for the age group.

Ryan Catron, another Nation’s Capital swimmer, provided the only new times atop the 13-year old boys in the 500 free and 100 back. Meanwhile, in the 14-year old boys age group, River Wright of Bluefish Swim Club zoomed to three zone bests in the 50 free, 100 breast, and 200 IM. East Coast Aquatic Team’s Cason Wilburn now has five zone bests after topping the zone in the 200 free and 1000 free this past weekend. Carton’s teammate Sean Conway busted out a 1:54.10 200 back to lead the 14-year old boys. Will Bargo (200 fly) and Rockville Montgomery’s Nathan Watts (1650) rounded out the new top times for the age group.

Jake Johnson (Delaware Swim Team) clocked the lone zone bests in the 200 fly and 200 IM for the 15-year old boys. Max Miranda, 16, shined in his age group. The Bluefish Swim Club swimmer topped the zone in the 200 and 500 free, 200 back, 200 fly, and the 200 and 400 IM. Khalil Fonder of the Virginia Gators also swam zone bests for the 16-year old boys in the 100 back and 100 fly.

Fynn Minuth gutted out a 4:32.33 to lead the 17-year old boys in the 500 free. David Crossland of the Delaware Swim Team (100 fly) and Sam Tarter of Nation’s Capital (400 IM)  also topped the age group to round out the Eastern Zone.

Central Zone

Girls: Ohio State Swim Club had two swimmers reach new zone bests in the 11-year old girls age group with Martina Peroni (200 and 500 free) and Ava Lachey (200 IM). Scarlet Martin of the Iowa Flyers Swim Club notched zone bests in the 100 free and the 100 and 200 fly, while Aubree Brouwer of the Jasper County Killer Whales posted top times in the 50 and 100 breast. Taylin Phrasivilay of Team Foxjet cranked out a 2:37.25 200 breast to top the zone as well.

Katie Morris of Northwest Dupage YMCA rocketed zone bests for the 12-year old girls in the 50, 100 and 200 free, while Eliot Kennedy of Waves Bloomington took the 500 and 100 free. Aurora Roghair of the Iowa Flyers muscled out a 18:24.09 in the 1650 free for another zone-best freestyle swim. St. Charles Swim Team’s Ellie Brault (50 and 100 breast), Academy Bullets Swim Club’s Madeline Wenig (200 breast), Waukesha Express Swim Team’s Morgan Dietzel (200 back) and Grace Sala (200 fly) also swam new top times.

St. Charles swimmer Mary Jania clocked top times in the 100 and 200 breast for the 13-year old girls. Ashley Bengston of Waves Bloomington chugged along to a zone best in the 1000 free with a 10:37.43, while Courtney Harris of the Rec Plex Sharks Swim Team bolted to a 24.14 zone-best 50 free. Kylie Goit of the Plymouth-Canton Cruisers (200 back and 200 IM) and Berit Quass of the Central Iowa Aquatics (100 fly) also topped the zone.

Springfield YMCA’s crushed six new top times for the 14-year old girls in the 200 free, 500 free, 1650 free, 100 back, 200 back, and 200 IM. Carmel Swim Club teammates Grace Pangburn (100 fly) and Kelly Pash (200 fly) posted top times, as well. Another set of teammates, this time from Lincoln Select Swimming, put out top times in the 200 breast (Marusha Ather) and 400 IM (Berkeley Livingston).

Ohio State Swim Club’s Janessa Mathews, an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100-meter breast, topped the 100 and 200 breast for the 15-year old girls. Anya Goeders of the Mako Swim Team topped the age group in the 50 and 100 free. Waves Bloomington teammates Melissa Pish (500 and 1000 free) and Grace Ariola (200 back) posted zone bests. Ruby Martin of the Iowa Flyers chipped in two top times in the 200 free and 200 IM. Taylor Acheson of the Kansas City Blazers posted a 2:06.11 200 fly to top the zone.

Carmel teammates Emma Nordin (200 free, 500 free, and 1650 free) and Sammie Burchill (200 fly and 200 back) posted zone bests for the 16-year old age group. Sarah Schemmel of th(e Piranhas Swim Club (100 free and 100 fly) and Ingrid Wall of New Trier Swim Club (50 free and 100 breast) each notched two new top times, while Mckenzee Gordon of Waves Bloomington grabbed the top spot in the 100 free.

Crown Point Swim Club’s Hannah Kukurugya blasted four top times in the 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM for the 17-year old girls. Claire Adams of Carmel topped the 200 free and 200 back. Haley Hynes posted an impressive 23.35 50 free and 53.42 100 back. Lauren Peterson of the Kansas City Blazers also made a splash at the top in the 1650 free.

Madison Wright‘s 2:00.48 200 fly was the lone change atop the 18-year old girls in the Central Zone.

Boys: In the Central Zone, Andrew Lin of Champaign County YMCA led the charge for the 11-year old boys with six new zone bests in the 50 and 200 free, 200 back, 50 fly, 100 IM, and 200 IM. Alec Filipovic of the St. Charles Swim Team (100 free), Tyson Tucci of the Redbird Swim Club (1000 free), and Brady McInerney (50 breast) also chipped in top times in the age group.

Black Hawk Area Swim Team swimmer Dylan Moffat swam a 4:55.96 500 free and 17:21.60 to top the 13-year old boys. Forrest Frazier of the Iowa Flyers (100 breast), Thomas Reedy of Waves Bloomington (200 breast) and Adam Milling of Springfield YMCA (400 IM) also etched their names atop the age group.

There were a slew of changes atop the 14-year old boys’ top times. Matthew Knox of Springfield YMCA topped the 50 free, while Lane Four Aquatics’ Peyton Werner swam top times in the 200 free, 500 free, and 400 IM. Shane Blindman of the Hudson Area Swimming Association swam zone bests in the 200 IM and 100 back, while Caleb Babb of the Jacksonville Sharks (200 breast and 100 fly), Drake Stallworth of the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (200 fly), and Trystan Lundgren of WEST Swim Club (100 breast) also swam zone bests.

Drew Kibler of Carmel and Caleb Aman each added three new top times to the 15 -year old boys age group. Kibler topped the 50, 100, and 200 free, while Aman swam a zone best in the 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM. Justin Grender of the Cincinnati Marlins popped off top times in the 100 and 200 back. Jacob Furlong of the Chicago Wolfpack (500 free), Ryan Downing of the Kansas City Blazers (1650 free), and Ryan Sego of the Academy Bullets (200 fly) also added new top times.

In the 16-year old boys age group, Eric Knowles of the Dayton Raiders (400 IM), Zach Bunn of Lane Four Aquatics (200 free), Spencer Walker of the Academy Bullets (200 back), and John Paul Becker (200 breast) all swam zone bests.

Each top time in the 17-year old boys age group was taken down this past weekend. Will Scott of the Iowa Flyers took charge of the 50 and 100 free. Spencer Lehamn of Northridge Area Swimming Association topped the 500 free, 1000 free, and 400 IM. Justin Temprano of Badger Aquatics Club took both backstroke races. Meanwhile, Chris Phillips of Lyons Swim Club claimed the top spot in the 200 breast and 200 IM. Nathan Spencer of Lane Four (200 free), Andy Grever of the Academy Bullets (1650 free), his teammate Michael Milinovich (200 fly), Weston Credit of WEST Swim Club (100 breast), and his teammate Franco Reyes (100 fly) all topped the age group.

Iowa Flyers teammates Nick Saulnier (500 free) and Mark McGlaughlin (100 fly) topped the 18-year old boys alongside Fishers Area Swimming Tigers member Glen Brown‘s 400 IM.

Southern Zone

Girls: Charlotte Hook of Triangle Aquatics Club zoomed to the top of the 11-year old girls ranks in the 100 free, 50 back, 100 back, 50 breast, and 200 IM. Her teammate Sarah Jackson also posted a top time in the 100 free and 500 free. Claire Curzan (50 fly) and Dynamo’s Rye Ulett (400 IM) also swam top times for the age group.

Tristen Ulett of Dynamo clocked zone bests in the 200 free and 200 fly for the 14-year old girls. Anna Freed also topped two events with zone bests in the 100 back and 200 IM. Jade Foelske rounded out the age group with a new top time in the 400 IM.

Ana Pozder of Triangle busted out four top times in the 200, 500, and 1650 free in addition to her 4:20.18 400 IM. Her teammate Olivia Carter dropped a 2:01.52 in the 200 fly to lead the zone. Jessica Nava‘s 100 free and 100 fly placed her atop the age group as well. Kirschtine Balbuena (50 free), Celi Guzman (100 back), and Christin Rockway (200 IM) also topped the age group.

Another Triangle swimmer, Julia Poole, posted three top times for the 16-year old girls in the 100 and 200 breast and 200 IM. Morgan Tankersley (200 free and 500 free) and Katie Schorr (50 free and 100 free) each swam two zone bests. Abi Wilder (100 back), Kate Moore (200 back), Dynamo’s Emma Layton (1650 free), and Lakeside Swim Team’s Brooke Forde (400 IM) also clinched top spots in the zone.

Forde’s Lakeside teammate Kennedy Lohman blasted a 2:16.45 in the 200 breast to top the 17-year old girls. Kyla Valls swam zone bests in the 100 and 200 free. Kendall Brent (500 free), Caroline White (100 breast), Paige Hamilton (100 fly), and Christina Lappin (200 fly) also chipped in top times.

Maddie Hess led the 18-year old girls with two new zone bests in the 100 and 200 back. Elizabeth Stinson (1650 free), Joanna Evans (1000 free), and Brooke Hansen (100 free) all swam zone bests to round out the Southern Zone.

Boys: Raleigh Swimming Association’s Joe Bunger clocked four new top times for the Southern Zone’s 11-year old boys in the 100 free, 100 back, 100 IM, and 200 IM. Triangle Aquatic Club’s Braeden Haughey (500 free), Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club’s Matthew Bittner (200 back) and Josh Zuchowski (50 back) also contributed new top times.  

Bunger’s teammate, Alex Smyre popped off a 23.14 50 free to lead the 12-year old boys. Liam Swain of Katy Aquatic Team for Youth (1000 free) and Nathan Jin of Dynamo (100 breast) also chipped in zone bests.

Luke Uttley (500 free) and Joshua Balbi hit top times for the 13-year old boys in the 500 free and 100 back, respectively. SwimMAC’s Conall Monahan (200 breast) and Cypress Fairbanks’ Cameron Dafoe (400 IM) also swam zone bests.

Zachary Hils, 14, crushed it with six new zone bests in the 100, 200 and 500 free, 200 back, 200 IM, and 400 IM. Izaak Bastian‘s 57.19 100 breast and Sterling Crane‘s 51.01 100 fly also cracked the top of the age group.

Will Chan busted out four zone-best times for the 15-year old boys in the 100 and 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM. Triangle Aquatic Club’s John Healy posted two zone bests in the 100 and 200 back. Nicholas Hackett (100 fly) and Nico Ferrara (50 free) also chipped in top times.

In the 16-year old boys age group, Ariel Spektor cranked out zone bests in the 100 free and 100 fly. Santi Corredor zoomed to the top of the age group in the 200 and 500 free. Austin Katz (100 back) and Patrick Groters (200 IM) also added their names to the top along with First Colony’s  Darrin Asphall (1650 free), Dynamo’s Michael Taylor (200 back), and James Daughtery (100 breast).

Tyler Rice (100 free) and Andy Song An (200 free) hit the top of the freestyle ranks for the 17-year old boys. Song An also swam a 47.58 100 back to lead the zone. Coley Sullivan of Lakeside Swim Team (200 back), Grant Thompson of Austin Swim Club (400 IM), and Noah Lense (100 fly) also made their mark atop the zone.

Raiz Tjon-A-Joe cruised atop the 50 free (20.10) and 100 breast (54.64) ranks for the 18-year old boys. Justin Ress (200 free), Danny Erienmeyer (500 free), and Noah Cairns (1000 free) joined him at the top.

Western Zone

Girls: Brea Aquatics’ Justina Kozan clocked two new top times for the 11-year old girls age group in the 200 free and 200 fly. In the next age group, FAST Swim Team’s Lilly Mazzi dropped four new top times in the 200 free, 500 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly. Santa Clara Swim Club’s Nadia Bouraoui (200 breast) and Pleasant Valley Swim Team’s Anna Hidalgo (100 free) also contributed new top times.

In the 13-year old girls age group, Santa Clara teammates Bianka Yongyuth (400 IM) and Nicole Oliva (200 free) each swam zone bests. Palm Alto Stanford Aquatics’ Brooke Schaffer leads the age group in the sprint free events (50 free and 100 free) La Miranda Armada’s Caitlyn Kanemitsu (200 fly), Yucaipa Swim Team’s Libby Williams (500 free), The Dolphins’ Kaitlyn Dobler (100 breast), the Olympic Club’s Kaitlyn Panopio (100 back), and SOCAL’s Mandy Brenner (200 fly) also swam new top times.

Pleasanton Seahawks swimmer Miranda Heckman notched three new top times for the 14-year old girls in the 500, 1000, and 1650 free. Missoula Aquatic Club’s Katharine Berkoff picked up two new top times in the 100 and 200 back. Zoe Hartman of Crow Canyon Country Club Sharks also added two zone bests with her 100 and 200 breast. Reno Aquatic Club’s Benedict Nagy (400 IM), Aquazot Swim Club’s Riley Lexvold (200 IM), Terrapins Swim Team’s Emily Lo (200 fly), and Sierra Marlins Swim Team’s Chloe Clark (100 fly) also added top times for a strong age group.

Eva Merrell, 15, of Aquazot blasted a number of new top times for her age group in the 50 and 100 free, 100 and 200 back, and the 100 fly. SOCAL’s Elise Garcia posted bests in the 200 free and 200 IM. Palo Alto teammates Zoe Lusk (200 breast) and Isabelle Henig (200 fly) clocked new top times as well. FAST’s Courtney Tsung‘s 500 free and Irvine Novaquatics’ Dinny Stevens‘s 1650 free were also new to the list. Hallway Kinsey of Davis Arden Racing Team posted two top times in the 10 breast and 400 IM to round out the 15-year old girls.

Merrill’s teammates Kate Krolikowski (200 free) and Ilse Martinez (200 breast) topped the 16-year old girls list. Abby Richter of the Boulder City Henderson Swim Team rocked four new top times in the 100 and 200 back, 200 IM, and 400 IM. Palo Alto’s Grace Zhao (50 free) and La Mirada Armada’s Taylor Ault (100 free) took the sprint races.

Stanza Moseley, 17, of Roadrunner Aquatic blasted top times in the 50, 100, and 200 free and the 100 fly. Palo Alto’s Chloe Isleta notched top times in the 100 and 200 breast, as well as the 100 back. Gianna Garcia‘s 1:59.29 in the 200 fly topped the age group. Meanwhile, Tualatin Hills Swim Club’s Lisa Kunitz (500 free), Irvine Novaquatics’ Brittany Kampfer (1000 free), David Arden Racing Team’s Chenoa Devine (200 back), Royal Swim Team’s Amy Okada (200 IM), and Reno Aquatic Club’s Mckenna Meyer (400 IM) also topped the age group.

Canyons Aquatic Club star Abby Weitzell blasted a 22.01 to top the 18-year old girls’ 50 free. Hanna Leach (200 back) and Paige Maynard (200 fly) also led the age group with new zone bests.

Boys: Andrew Renninger provided the only new top time for the 11-year old boys in the West with his 18:19.30 1650 free. In the next age group, Vincent Cheng of Brea Aquatics swam zone bests in the 100 and 200 fly. Also swimming top times for the 12-year old boys were Adam Fusti-Molnar of Charger Aquatics (50 breast) and Kai Crews of Truckee-Tahoe Swim Team (200 IM).

Redding Swim Team age group phenom Winn Aung, now 13, posted four zone bests in the 50 and 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly. Rose Bowl Aquaitcs Danny Syrkin (200 free), Davis Arden Racing Team’s Luca Urlando (100 back), and Aquazot Swim Club’s Tanner Pulice (400 IM) also reached the top of the age group.

Tualatin Hills Swim Club teammates Trent Martinez (100 and 200 free) and Caspar Corbeau (100 and 200 breast) bolted to the top of the 14-year old boys age group. Kevin Vargas of La Mirada Armada posted two zone bests in the 200 IM and 400 IM. Meanwhile, Irvine Novaquatics’ Kevin Tu (500 free and 100 back), South Pasadena Sea Tigers’ Connor Lee (100 fly), and Hillsboro Swim Team’s Luke Thornbrue (1000 free) also swam top ranked times.

There were plenty of changes in the 15-year old boys, led by Thomas Roark (50 and 100 free) and Irvine’s Gabriel Munoz (100 and 200 fly). Simon Lamar of FAST Swim Team (500 free), Weston Rowan of San Clemente Aquatic Team (200 back), Carlson Temple of College Area Swim Team (200 breast), and Bergen Davis (100 breast) swam top times as well.

Alex Liang of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics busted out five zone bests for the 16-year old boys in the 500 free, 200 back, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM. He was joined at the top by Canyons Aquatic Club’s Zander Minano in the 50 free, Sun-shine Aquatics Swim Club’s Albert Zhi in the 100 free, Pacifc Swim’s Austin Nguyen in the 100 breast, Walnut Creek Aquabears’ Hank Poppe in the 200 breast, and Talon Lindquist in the 100 fly.

Maxime Rooney of the Pleasanton Seahawks notched zone bests in the 100 free and 200 fly for the 17-year old boys. Palo Alto teammates Albert Gwo (50 free) and Benjamin Ho (200 back) put out zone bests as well. BLAST Sharks’ Joon Sung (100 fly) and Aquazot’s Danny Yos (400 IM) rounded out the 17-year old boys with new top times.

Amongst 18-year old boys, Palo Alto’s Joe Molinari led the way with new top times in the 100 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM. His teammate Jeremy Babinet also posted a top time in the 200 breast. Nick Norman (1650 free), Mark Nikolaev (100 back), Daniel Tran (200 back), Carson Sand (100 breast) and Conner Stirling (100 free) also notched top times in the age group.

For the Central Zone: There is a typo. It should be Shane Blinkman, not Shane Blindman.

Donna Reed Lamb You Liked this post and I was searching for Stetsons name. Instead I found jade foelske, a girl who swam for my hometown Bremen a few years ago. How funny is that! I miss you and I am so so so proud of how Stetson is doing!
