Anton Chupkov Blasts to New Meet Record in the 200 Breast at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships

Anton Chupkov of Russia dashed to first and a new championship meet record in the 200-meter breaststroke during prelims of day four at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships. Chupkov turned in a time of 2:10.73 to narrowly beat the former record of 2:10.75 set by Russia’s Alexander Palatov in 2013.

Australia’s Matthew Wilson posted a finishing time of 2:12.36 from the same heat to grab second overall in prelims. Wilson succeeded in shaving .47 seconds off of his seed time of 2:12.83.

Reece Whitley of the USA rounds out the top three qualifiers with a final time of 2:12.98, adding slightly to his seed time of 2:11.30.

Japan’s Ippei Miyamoto grabbed the fourth place seed after posting a time of 2:13.27 from heat four.

Fifth place overall in prelims went to Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi who posted a final time of 2:13.89.

Chandler Bray of the USA and Charlie Attwood of Great Britain kept it close in heat four, finishing .35 seconds apart. Bray got his hands on the wall first touching in 2:14.13 compared to Atwood’s 2:14.48.

Christopher Rothbauer of Austria was eighth overall in prelims with a final time of 2:15.34.
