Ante Zoricic to Join Seven Other Hoosiers at World University Games

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, June 15. IT was announced that rising Indiana University swimming and diving junior Ante Zoricic will represent his native Croatia at the 2009 World University Games, July 1-12 in Belgrade, Serbia.

The swimming events begin on July 4 and run through July 11.

Zoricic joins swimmers Kevin Swander, Sergiy Fesenko, Kate Zubkova and Eric Ress, along with divers Brittney Feldman and Amy Korthauer at the international competition. Head swimming coach Ray Looze will serve as a staff assistant with USA Swimming.

"We are very pleased to have Ante joining a large IU squad going to the World University Games," said head swimming coach Ray Looze. "He has had an exceptional summer of training and is poised to have major breakthroughs."

Zoricic stepped in and made an immediate impact in his first two seasons at IU. As a freshman, Zoricic earned All-America honors as a member of the 200 free (eighth), 400 medley (10th) and 400 free (11th) relays at the NCAA Championships. This season he posted top-8 finishes in the 50 free (seventh) and 200 free relay (fifth) at the Big Ten Championships.
