Another Former Wildcat Joins NCAA Coaching Ranks as Jake Tapp Hired by IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, August 19. FORMER University of Arizona All-American and 2008 Olympian Jake Tapp has joined the IUPUI men’s swimming and diving staff as an assistant coach, head coach Matt Bos announced today.

Tapp joins the IUPUI staff after spending the last two years coaching with the Tom Johnson Swim Camps and the Vancouver Pacific Swim Club in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

“We are all really excited to have Jake join our program. We have put together a great young staff and his excitement for the sport will have a tremendous impact with our athletes as well as our staff,” Bos said. “His experience as an elite level swimmer will certainly add to our growing program here at IUPUI, so we are just thrilled to have Jake and I look forward to working with him.”

“After visiting Indianapolis and competing at The Natatorium many times as a swimmer myself, I am excited to begin my collegiate coaching career at IUPUI and call Indianapolis my home,” Tapp said. “I am looking forward to working with and learning from both Matt and Stephanie, as well as helping guide the team towards our future goals and potential.”

Tapp spent six years swimming for Swim Canada and the Canadian National Team. In addition to helping set the world record in the 4×100 medley relay in 2009, Tapp was a member of the 2008 Canadian Olympic Team and swam in the 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

Collegiately, Tapp was a 13-time All-American at the University of Arizona and currently ranks first and fourth in the 200 backstroke and 100 backstroke, respectively, in the Wildcat record books. That 200 backstroke record still stands as the Pac-12 Conference record. Prior to the 2008 Olympics, Tapp also helped the Wildcats claim the NCAA Championship — the program’s lone team National Title.
