Anna Peplowski, Brendan Burns Lead Indiana Over Michigan

In a Big Ten showdown in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Indiana women knocked off the Michigan Wolverines by just four points in a dual meet that came down to the final event. Anna Peplowski was they key swimmer for the Hoosier women in the triumph, as Peplowski had two individual wins plus one relay first-place finish as Indiana won 152-148. Meanwhile, multi-time NCAA champion Brendan Burns had four wins overall, three in individual events, as Indiana’s men cruised to a 182-118 victory.

Ching Hwee Gan opened the meet for the Hoosiers with a win in the 1000 freestyle (9:47.37) before Peplowski led the way in the 200 free (1:45.14) and 200 backstroke (1:56.46). Brearna Crawford took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.16) and 200 breaststroke (2:14.91), and Kristina Paegle was victorious in the 50 free with a mark of 22.46

In diving, Anne Fowler finished first on the 1-meter (323.85) and 3-meter (353.78) boards, but the meet was not secure until Peplowski, Ashley Turak, Paegle and Ella Ristic won the 400 free relay in 3:16.68.

Michigan’s women captured the 200 medley relay in 1:38.35, largely thanks to Brady Kendall splitting 23.14 on the butterfly leg. Casey ChungNatalie Kan and Lindsay Flynn also swam for the Wolverines. Chung later won the 100 back (54.07), and Hanneh Bellard won the 200 butterfly (1:58.84). Stephanie Balduccini grabbed first in the 100 free (48.49) and 200 IM (2:00.70). Katie Crom went 4:47.73 for a win in the 500 free before Kendall led the way in the 100 fly (53.25).

The Hoosier men were a force to be reckoned with in relays. Burns, Finn BrooksTomer Frankel and Mikkel Lee secured the win in the 200 medley relay, and to bookend the meet, Frankel, Rafael MiroslawGavin Wight and Lee went 2:53.92 to win the 400 free relay by almost three seconds. Miroslaw posted a time of 1:34.60 for the win in the 200 free while Burns was the winner of the 100 back (46.83), 200 fly (1:44.37) and 200 back (1:43.99) in a dominant day.

Jassen Yep showed out for the Indiana breaststroke group, winning the 100 (53.91) and Max Reich taking second (54.58) before also topping the 200 in 1:58.19, with Reich again second (1:59.02). Lee won the 100 free (43.52), and Luke Barr finished first in the 200 IM (1:46.62). Carson Tyler scored two diving wins, on 1-meter (383.85) and 3-meter (466.35)

Michigan’s Connor Hunt won the 1000 free (9:15.98) and 500 free (4:30.07) while Bence Szabados topped the 50 free (19.73) and Tyler Ray took the 100 fly (46.60).
